Feeding, Care and pet enjoyment
Responsibility
Having a pet brings a lot of joy, but it also comes with great responsibilities. Pets are living beings that must be treated with care and respect. The person who owns a pet, must always consider what is best for the animal to ensure it has a good life.
Knowledge
Each species has it own nature and way of living. They require stimulation and an environment that is adapted to their needs. What is best for the animal is not allways what is best for the owner. One must also consider what can be done to prevent illness in the animal and to prevent the spread of disease to/from the animal. All of this requires knowledge.
Freash water and good hay
All rabbits and rodents should always have access to fresh water andr fresh, dry hay of good quality. Hay is an important part of their diet, and for all rabbits and many rodents, it is the main food. Hay regulates the digestive function and at least 80% of the daily food for rabbits should be hay og grass. In addition to being eaten, many animals also use hay for nesting or burrow building and other activities.
Hay is a natural product, and its taste, smell, color, and nutritional content can vary somewhat depending on the harvest conditions of the year. Animals may react to new smells and tastes and may need som time to adjust to new hay. It is a good idea to give the animals a variety of hay from "To gode naboer" so that hey become accustomed to different flavors. When switching from one food to another, it should always be done gradually over the course of a week. A sudden change in food can result in stomach pain for the animal.
